The key for this slider was gone and there was no spare, so the door could not be locked. Rather than put a whole new lock on the door, the lock came off and went back to the people who make them, and a new barrel was made to fit the one that was already there. It went back on the same visit, with two new keys, and the door locks and slides as it should.

A small storeroom with the lock it came with — a plain keyed lever, the same one that is on every internal door in the house. Fine for a cupboard. Not fine once a safe is going in behind it, which is what the owner was planning. A keyed lock has no idea who opened it or when, and a key that goes missing is a lock that has to be changed. A smart lock answers both: entry by code rather than key, codes that can be handed out and taken back one at a time, and a record of every time the door was opened. Same door, same frame, no cutting about — the new lock went onto the existing prep in a couple of hours.
