Why Your Kitchen Sink Keeps Coming Loose (And How to Actually Fix It)
By Rinat, Handyman Botany · 12 August 2026 · 2 min read
A loose kitchen sink is rarely a sealant problem — it's usually the support bracket underneath giving way under the weight of a stone benchtop. Here's why it happens, and how a proper bracket repair in East Tamaki fixed one for good.
Why Stone Benchtop Sinks Come Loose
An undermount sink is usually held up almost entirely by adhesive and clips fixed to the underside of the benchtop — there's often no real structural support beneath it. A stone benchtop is heavy, and over time that adhesive bond can fail under the constant load, especially with a full sink of water sitting in it.
What We Found in This East Tamaki Kitchen
The sink had detached from its original fixings under a heavy stone benchtop, leaving it unsupported and unsafe for regular use.
The Fix: A Custom Support Bracket
A custom timber support bracket was fitted beneath the sink to properly carry its weight and hold it securely in place long-term — addressing what was actually holding the sink up, not just resealing the edges.
Why a Proper Fix Beats a Tube of Sealant
Sealant stops water getting underneath, but it was never designed to bear weight. Re-sealing a detached sink might look fixed for a few weeks, but without something actually carrying the load, it comes loose again. A bracket solves the real cause.
