About This Kitchen Sink Repair
When this kitchen was built, the stainless steel sink was simply glued to the underside of the stone benchtop with adhesive and silicone — no mechanical support underneath. Over time that bond let go, and the sink dropped away from the stone along one edge, opening up a visible gap (marked with the red arrow in the before photo).
The fix started with removing all of the old, failed silicone and adhesive from the joint and cleaning the stone and steel back to a bare, dry surface. Fresh silicone was then applied along the full joint to properly reseal it.
Silicone alone was what failed the first time, so it wasn't going to be the long-term fix on its own. A custom timber support bracket was cut and wedged in underneath the sink to physically carry its weight against the cabinet below — so the joint is no longer the only thing holding it up.
