Overgrown Hedges
Hedge growth can spread into paths, driveways and neighbouring plants if it is not trimmed regularly.
Overgrown hedges, untidy garden beds and long grass can quickly change the appearance of an otherwise well-maintained home.
Regular garden maintenance helps keep outdoor areas clean, practical and welcoming. Handyman Botany provides practical garden and landscaping maintenance across East Auckland, including hedge trimming, shrub shaping, lawn mowing and general garden tidy-ups. The goal is simple โ make the outdoor area look neat, controlled and cared for without unnecessarily changing an established garden.
Gardens grow gradually, which means it is easy not to notice how much hedges, shrubs and grass have expanded until the whole outdoor area begins to look untidy.
Hedge growth can spread into paths, driveways and neighbouring plants if it is not trimmed regularly.
Shrubs can gradually grow together and lose the clean individual shapes that make a garden look organised.
An overgrown lawn can make the whole front or backyard appear less maintained.
Unwanted growth around garden beds and outdoor areas can quickly make landscaping look untidy.
Overgrown vegetation can make paths, steps and access around the house feel narrower.
A garden tidy-up can make a noticeable difference before listing photos, viewings or an open home.

The aim is to improve presentation while working with the plants and garden layout already in place.
Check the garden, access, hedge height, lawn condition and areas needing attention.
Identify what should be trimmed, shaped, mowed or tidied.
Cut back hedge growth and shape shrubs to restore cleaner garden lines.
Mow suitable lawn areas and tidy selected edges where included in the job.
Clean up the work area and check the overall presentation before finishing.
Established gardens do not always need redesigning. Often, trimming an overgrown hedge, reshaping shrubs, mowing the lawn and cleaning up the edges is enough to make the whole property feel brighter, larger and better maintained.
Pricing depends on the size and condition of the garden, the amount of work involved and how easy the area is to access.
A single hedge trim or small garden tidy-up typically starts from here.
Larger hedges, heavily overgrown areas, restricted access or multiple garden tasks are quoted individually after assessing the scope of work.
A simple example of how routine hedge trimming, shrub shaping and garden maintenance can completely change the presentation of an outdoor area.
The hedge and surrounding shrubs had become tall and visually crowded. The established vegetation was trimmed and shaped, the surrounding garden was tidied and the outdoor area was brought back to a cleaner and more maintained appearance. The result shows how routine garden maintenance can improve the presentation of a home without requiring a complete landscaping redesign.

It depends on the job. Small hedge trims or a single garden tidy-up are often quoted from photos before we arrive. Larger jobs, multiple hedges or a full garden tidy-up are priced once we've seen the property or reviewed clear photos of the whole area.
The main things that affect price are the size of the area, how overgrown it is, the height and thickness of hedges or shrubs, how easy the garden is to access, whether green waste needs to be removed, and the total time the job will take.
Yes. Taller hedges and trees take longer to trim safely and often produce more green waste to remove. Height, thickness and how long it's been since the last trim all factor into the final price.
Yes. No two gardens are the same โ plant types, how overgrown they are, and access all vary from property to property. We look at each garden individually rather than using a fixed price list.
Not necessarily. For many jobs, clear photos of the whole garden and the specific areas needing attention are enough for an initial price. For larger or more complex gardens, a quick site visit gives a more accurate quote.
Often, yes. Send a few clear photos showing the full width of the hedge or garden bed, plus a sense of scale (standing next to it helps), and we can usually put together an estimate without a site visit.
This depends on the job and is confirmed upfront in the quote. For larger trims that produce a lot of clippings, green waste removal may be quoted as a separate line so you know exactly what you're paying for.
A first visit to an overgrown garden usually takes longer and costs more than each following visit, since regular maintenance means less growth to deal with each time. We're happy to discuss a maintenance schedule once the initial tidy-up is done.
Yes. Garden maintenance can be combined with other pre-sale work to improve the overall presentation before photography, open homes or property viewings.
