About This Pre-Sale Fence Preparation
The street-facing timber fence at this Highland Park property had accumulated moss, grime and vine growth on both sides over time. Painting directly over that contamination would have compromised how well a new coat adhered and how consistent it looked — so cleaning came first.
It was also a long run of fence, which made proper equipment and access essential — without a decent water blaster and hoses long enough to reach the full length, getting a genuinely even clean along the whole run would have been difficult. Weeds and vines growing through and along the fence were cleared first, then both sides were water blasted section by section to lift the moss and grime without damaging the timber underneath.
Once clean and fully dry, the fence was handed over to a painting subcontractor to apply the fresh black coat. The water blasting and preparation was carried out by Handyman Botany; the repaint was completed by the subcontractor for a stronger presentation ahead of the sale.
While cleaning, a number of palings that had started coming loose were picked up too — gaps between boards were adjusted and loose palings renailed so the fence felt solid rather than shaky. Aside from that, the original board spacing and normal imperfections of the existing fence were left as they were — this was a clean-and-secure job, not a rebuild, which kept the whole visit to around four hours.
